The final element of my 7 step leadership suite – caring about people, is really the foundation of it all. People tend to respond positively to those who show that they care about them. So, if you care, then show that you care - in a natural way. If you’re not a people person, then you will likely have some challenges in getting positive validation for your leadership. People will feel if you are real or not. That makes all the difference.
Despite tough targets and high pressure to perform, encourage people to keep a healthy balance between their work and private life. You don’t want worn-out and burn-out wrecks, but rather energized and happy people. Take time for people, listen, discuss, coach, help them solve problems, seek for their advice, ask them about their private lives.
Above all, acknowledge, respect and care.
